Norway Vacation Packages
Fjords, Islands and Northern Lights
What you see in Norway depends entirely on when you go. Our luxury Norway vacation packages cover the western fjords, the Lofoten Islands and the Arctic north — midnight sun and open hiking in summer, northern lights from late September through March.
Norway is a country best measured in light. In June the sun doesn't set above the Arctic Circle, and people are out walking at midnight. By December the same latitude gets a blue hour instead of a day, and the aurora does the rest.
Between those extremes: the deepest fjords in Europe, a coastline of roughly 100,000 islands, and cities that manage to be world-class without ever feeling large. It's an easy country to travel to and a difficult one to plan. The distances are long, the seasons change what's possible, and the good things book early.
The fjords are the reason most people come, and the difference between a good fjord trip and an average one is how you're on the water.
Our Norway fjord tours run privately — a chartered boat on the Nærøyfjord rather than a scheduled ferry, the Flåm Railway timed so you're not sharing it with three coach parties, and hotels in the fjord villages instead of a base in Bergen with day trips out. Norway fjord cruises can be built around a small ship along the coast, or a few nights on the water between Bergen and Ålesund.
Lofoten is a four-hour flight and a world away from Oslo, and it rewards more time than most itineraries give it.
Our Lofoten Islands tours base you in a converted fishermen's cabin on the water, with a local guide for the hikes worth doing and the sea eagle and fishing trips that make the archipelago worth the journey. In summer you get twenty-four-hour daylight; between October and March the same islands are one of the better places on earth to watch the aurora with no light pollution at all.
Norwegian food is at its best close to the source. We arrange fresh-catch seafood on the Lofoten docks, king crab safaris in the far north, and meals with Sámi hosts in Finnmark that come with the culture attached. It's less about cooking classes than about eating something exceptional exactly where it's landed.
The aurora needs three things: darkness, clear skies and latitude. Norway has all of them from roughly late September to late March.
Our Norway northern lights tours are built north of the Arctic Circle, in Tromsø, Lofoten or Finnmark, with several nights in place rather than one, because the aurora doesn't perform on schedule. We pair the nights with what the region does well in winter: dog sledding, whale watching off the coast from November, and time with Sámi reindeer herders in Finnmark.
Norway is straightforward to travel and easy to travel badly — three fjords in two days, or a week in the north during the wrong month.
Our Norway guided tours run with licensed local guides who know their own region: fjord skippers, Arctic guides in Tromsø, and hiking guides in Lofoten who can read the weather well enough to change the plan before it costs you the day. You travel privately, on your own schedule.
Every itinerary starts empty. Tell us how long you have, whether you're coming for the fjords or the aurora, and how much you want to move.
Norway private tours handle the logistics that make the country hard to plan from abroad: domestic flights to Lofoten and Tromsø, rail seats on the Bergen and Flåm lines, private boat charters, and the handful of good fjord hotels that fill a year ahead. Norway travel packages can run five days or three weeks, south to north or one region properly.
Norway is a quieter honeymoon than most, and better for it — no resorts, no crowds, just extraordinary places and very few people in them.
Norway honeymoon packages tend to build around a fjord-view suite in the west, a night or two in a glass-roofed lodge or a cabin in Lofoten, and a private boat day somewhere with no one else on the water. In winter, the aurora does what no venue can.
Norway suits families better than its reputation suggests. The outdoors is the entertainment, the country is exceptionally safe, and children are welcome everywhere.
Our Norway family tours favour fewer bases and more time outside — a fjord cruise, the Flåm Railway, husky sledding in winter, and summer days on the water. We keep travel days short and build in the flexibility that weather in Norway always demands.
Direct flights run to Oslo from New York, and Norway connects easily through most major European hubs from anywhere else in the US. Flight time from the East Coast is around seven and a half to eight hours — shorter than most travelers expect.
US passport holders travel visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180 days under Schengen rules. We plan Norway tours from USA departures end to end, with 24/7 support in your time zone.
Norway is one of Europe's more expensive countries, and prices peak from June to August. Fjord hotels and Arctic lodges sit at the top end. We cost each itinerary individually. Send us your dates and budget, and we'll build to it.
Roughly late September to late March, above the Arctic Circle. Tromsø, Lofoten and Finnmark are the strongest bases. Plan at least three or four nights in place, since the aurora depends on clear skies.
Seven to ten days covers Oslo, Bergen and the fjords comfortably. Five days works for the fjords alone. Add three to four more if you're travelling north to Lofoten or Tromsø.
May to September, with June to August offering the longest days and the most reliable conditions. May and September are quieter and cheaper with much of the same scenery.
Yes. Every itinerary we build is private and customized, including fjord, Lofoten and aurora trips that aren't listed as set departures.
