I have a passion for traveling to various destinations around the globe, but Africa has always held a special place in my heart. My journey backpacking through the continent began in 2018, and since then, I have been captivated by its beauty and culture. Africa has become a place that I continuously find myself drawn back to, as each visit brings new experiences and memories that I cherish. As a dedicated Africa travel advisor, my goal is to assist individuals in experiencing Africa in an authentic, safe, and ethical manner while also ensuring that their journey is filled with fun and adventure.

Its a common question we receive: what country offers the best safari opportunities? The brief answer is, your safari adventure will be tailored to meet your expectations. While South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, and Tanzania are all amazing places to visit, they each provide a one-of-a-kind experience for travelers.

Also I would like to share my some of experience with you I embarked on a 14-day journey to South Africa and Botswana. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been in both countries before. This was my first time experiencing a safari in both countries during one vacation. This gave me the chance to directly juxtapose and differentiate the experiences.

Let’s Stay Accommodation

In South Africa, particularly in the Sabi Sands area, most camps do not consist of tents. Instead, the accommodations are hard-sided with air conditioning and, in some instances, a private plunge pool. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Camps can vary in size, offering anywhere from six to twenty rooms.

In Botswana, most of the camps feature tented accommodations, with canvas sides and roofs. It is important to note that many of these camps do not offer air conditioning or swimming pools. Guests staying in Botswana can experience the symphony of natures sounds, including crickets, frogs, monkeys, lions and more. Furthermore, the majority of camps in Botswana offer accommodations with 12 rooms or fewer.

Transportation

In South Africa offers direct flights from the US to Johannesburg and Cape Town. From there, travelers typically fly into Mpumalanga, Hoedspruit, or Skukuza, and then transfer by land to their camp. The transfer can range from a quick 10-minute drive to a scenic 3-hour journey through the beautiful South African landscape.

In Botswana does not have direct flights from the US, so it is likely that you will need to spend a night in Johannesburg before continuing on to Botswana. After arriving in Maun, you will board a smaller "bush" plane with 20 seats to reach an airstrip near your camp. The majority of airstrips are located within a 20-30 minute drive from your camp, ensuring a convenient and efficient journey to your destination.

Selection of safari adventures

When visiting South Africa, you can expect to spend 95% of your time on a game vehicle safari. While some lodges may offer nature walks in between drives, the range of activities available to you is somewhat limited.

Botswana offers a variety of safari experiences depending on the season. Visitors can enjoy game drives, boat cruises, canoe trips, mokoro rides, and walking safaris in most locations.

Natures symphony plays out through the turning of the seasons

South Africa offers the opportunity for safari adventures year-round, ensuring that you will always have the chance to witness incredible wildlife. The dry season provides optimal conditions for spotting animals as they are not obscured by tall grasses and foliage.

Botswana is a stunning destination, but it is best to avoid visiting from October to January due to the extreme heat. The peak season in Botswana is during June, July, and August, but keep in mind that costs can be significantly higher during this time, sometimes even double at many camps.
