1. Language: The official language of Turkey is Turkish. English is widely spoken in major cities, tourist areas, hotels, and restaurants, particularly in Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, Bodrum, and Izmir.
2. Currency: Turkey uses the Turkish Lira (TRY) as its official currency. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but carrying some cash is useful for local markets, small shops, rural towns, and tips.
3. Passport Validity: Your U.S. passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Turkey. Ensure it has blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
4. Visa Requirements: U.S. citizens need an e-Visa for tourism or business purposes. The e-Visa can be obtained online before arrival and is generally valid for 90 days within 180 days.
5. Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is highly recommended for Turkey travel. Coverage should include medical expenses, emergency evacuation, trip cancellations, and trip interruptions, especially if you plan hot air ballooning in Cappadocia, hiking, or coastal adventures.
